Through the month of December to we ran a wonderful raffle campaign to raise money for the up keep of this life saving equipment. Within a week we raised £180 thanks to the support of our local businesses. We had great raffle prizes supported by Boston Tea Party Edgbaston and Anytime Fitness Edgbaston .
An AED can increase the survival chances of people who have cardiac arrest outside medical grounds. The local ambulance service can direct 999 callers to the defibrillator, meaning vital treatment can commence prior to the ambulance arriving. Supplied by CardiAid, the new device is part of the wider Banana Moon franchise’s ‘Little hearts, bright futures’ . As a franchise they aim to see all Banana Moon nurseries across the UK network have their own Defibs installed and running.
According to the British Heart Foundation (BHF), there are more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests every year in the UK – 20% of which happen in public places. What’s more, 270 cardiac arrests occur in UK schools each year.
A defibrillator allows an increased chance of survival for a person suffering from a cardiac arrest. It works by delivering a high-energy electric shock to the heart.
The device is registered with The Circuit national database and with West Midlands Ambulance Service, who can direct 999 callers to the defibrillator meaning vital treatment can begin ever before the ambulance arrives.
All our staff at Edgbaston have first aid training to ensure we go above and beyond to provide the safest environment for our families and children.
